Brainscan - Light Meets Night
Runners: Fingers, Barger, Neo, Crazed Jake, Running
Wolf, Iceface Things have been tough on the runners for the last few weeks. Since the Renraku Arcology Shutdown and with parts of central Seattle under martial Law, the corps have been treading carefully and what few runs have come up have been barely enough to pay the bills so when the call comes in from a Johnson for a quick night’s work, the runners jump at the chance. The gig is simple, infiltrate a low-grade substation belonging to Geatronics and upload a file into its Power Management system – couple of hours work 4000 Nuyen richer. The run goes smoothly, Neo managing to upload the file without too much trouble from the security subsystems and despite a knife-edge encounter with “Little Timmy” the runners manage to avoid any trouble. Heading back to collect their fee, the runners find out they their run has been one of a series of co-ordinated events and one of the other teams has screwed up! Johnson offers them double money plus a 1000 nuyen in Shiawase shares to complete the mission before sunrise. This run is similar to the first except the target computer is in a bungalow on Council Island in Lake Washington. Borrowing two high-powered speedboats from Mr J, the runner cross the lake managing to avoid the patrol boats. Crazed Jake casts improved invisibility on Fingers and Neo who start to infiltrate the hotel complex where the bungalow is. Barger and Iceface remain to guard Crazed Jake and the boats. Fingers and Neo make their way to the bungalow, where the discover Ace, a surviving runner from the previous run still trying to complete the mission. Dropping him with a stunball, they complete the mission successfully ( after some prompting from Barger and Iceface over the com-link) While Fingers heads back to the others Neo heads for the nearby beach with the unconscious Ace, managing to avoid being spotted by the skinny-dipping party. Iceface, Barger and Fingers swim out into the lake towing the boats behind them to avoid the engine noise and pick up Neo and Ace safely. The head back to the mainland and pick up their payment from Mr J, who even leaves a credstick for the still unconscious Ace. Neo leaves Ace his credstick, but nicks his cyberdeck. The next evening Seattle is plunged into 48hrs of chaos as a city-wide blackout takes place, the city is wracked by riots and looting and its weeks before brownouts across the network stop. Martial Law is declared in the Barrens and troops patrol the streets. Afterwards the financial cost of the blackout when totalled up are estimated into the hundreds of millions of nuyen. Dozens of citizens have been killed, hundreds more wounded. The Runners, wisely, maintain a low profile throughout all this chaos they’ve created. |
